SPRING FORMS

Solomon Fine Art
continues to be at the forefront of contemporary sculpture in Ireland.  Our latest project Spring Forms brings together over 30 different artists working in bronze, stone and glass in a stunning country garden setting.

Spring Forms will be formally launched by the well-known Irish gardener, broadcaster and writer Dermot O’Neill and runs from 25th - 31st May 2009 at the Solomon Fine Art office and gardens in Rathmore, near Naas, Co. Kildare.  Unlike our monumental Secret Garden show at the Iveagh Gardens last year, Spring Forms focuses on smaller, more domestic scale sculpture, suitable for both outdoor and indoor display.

Artists include:  John Behan, Sandra Bell, Cheryl Brown, Orla de Brí, David Dunne, Michael Duhan, Ana Duncan, Jason Ellis, Barry Flanagan, Rowan Gillespie, Catherine Greene, Ronan Halpin, Leo Higgins, Christy Keeney, Laurent Mellet, F.E. McWilliam, Tim Morris, Elizabeth O’Kane, Patrick O’Reilly, Ian Pollock, Michael Quane, Bob Quinn, Patrick Scott, Anthony Scott, Killian Schurmann, Imogen Stuart, Michael Warren and Alexandra Wejchert.

Highlights of the exhibition will include a series of eight small bronze studies for a life-size group sculpture entitled ‘L’Età della Donna/The Age of Woman’ by Rowan Gillespie which was recently commissioned for the prestigious Veneto Banca Headquarters in Treviso, Italy.  The sculpture will shortly be unveiled in Italy and the small maquettes will be available for sale in Ireland exclusively through Solomon Fine Art.

Suzanne Macdougald, owner of the former Lad Lane and Solomon Galleries, has been the leading promoter of sculpture in Ireland for the last three decades.  In the 1970’s she hosted the first Henry Moore, Enzo Plazzotta and Michael Ayrton solo exhibitions in Ireland and she kick-started the careers of the well-known Irish sculptors Michael Warren and Rowan Gillespie.  During the 1980s and 90s she promoted the work of  Arman, F.E. McWilliam and Dale Chihuly, amongst others, and has facilitated many well-known public sculptures in Dublin city, including Gillespie’s ‘Famine’ and the temporary sculpture space on Grafton Street, currently occupied by Angela Conner’s ‘Patefaction’.
