17 January 2006: SCULPTURE FOR SMALL GARDENS
25 JUNE - 10 JULY, 2007

Following the enormous success of the Solomon’s previous large-scale outdoor ‘Sculpture & Gardens’ exhibition in June 2005, we are delighted to present ‘SCULPTURE FOR SMALL GARDENS’ which will be held at the gallery from 25 June – 10 July 2007.
In order to create the perfect backdrop for these sculptures, the award-winning Irish gardener Paul Martin has been commissioned to design and create a number of real garden areas within the gallery. Martin is completely Astroturf-ing the gallery floor and is incorporating real plants, shrubs, flowers and gardening props, such as large wire gazebos and trellises, to give each ‘garden’ an authentic feel.
With over 20 sculptors involved, the brief was to submit works that would be suitable for outdoor display, whether in bronze, stone, wood or steel. All of the artists have responded extremely enthusiastically and have created some very beautiful pieces including hanging mobiles, carved sculptural ‘furniture’ and a number of water sculptures. One or two very large-scale sculptures will also be displayed in the grand Georgian hallway of the Powerscourt Townhouse for the duration of the show.
The Solomon Gallery has been at the forefront of sculpture in Ireland for the last thirty years, so it comes as no surprise that this latest exhibition will feature Ireland & Britain’s foremost contemporary sculptors, such as BARRY FLANAGAN, ROWAN GILLESPIE, PATRICK O’REILLY, LINDA BRUNKER and SEAN HENRY (see full list below). Important works by the late, great artists F.E McWILLIAM (1909-1992), LYNN CHADWICK (1914 - 2003) and ENZO PLAZZOTTA (1921-1981) will also be included – making this a must-see exhibition for both the connoisseur art collector and gardening enthusiast.
Featured artists Sandra Bell, Rory Breslin, Linda Brunker, Orla de Brí, Lynn Chadwick, Barry Flanagan, Rowan Gillespie,
Tom Glendon, Sean Henry, Leo Higgins, F.E. McWilliam, Laurent Mellet, Patrick O’Reilly, Enzo Plazzotta, Bob Quinn, Anthony Scott, Imogen Stuart RHA, Rory Tangney, David William-Ellis
